Hamline University Department of Studio Arts and Art History invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Sculpture to begin in the Fall Semester of 2015. Master of Fine Arts degree required; two years teaching experience beyond graduate school and a significant exhibition history required. We seek a professional artist with the ability to teach both traditional and contemporary 3D/sculptural art practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate dedication, achievement and commitment to teaching and scholarship; she/he will be expected to advance the Sculpture program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels. It is essential that the candidate be professional, well organized and have the ability and desire to work with faculty colleagues in Studio Arts and Art History in a small liberal arts department.

Specific Requirements: The candidate will demonstrate the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary shop environment and is responsible for equipment maintenance with the assistance of a part-time student worker. Specialization in a specific medium will be complemented by the ability to teach all levels of Sculpture including 3D and 2D Design, Installation, and Independent Study, courses within the Studio Arts curriculum such as Senior Seminar, and general undergraduate liberal arts courses such as First-Year Seminar. Experience with Video/New Media is an advantage. Background in Art History and a commitment to its necessity in Studio Arts education is required. There will be a total of 6 courses per academic year. This position requires additional departmental/institutional duties such as committee work, student advising and recruitment, as well as demonstrable personal artistic scholarship. Responsibilities: We seek a candidate who is an artist and an enthusiastic educator with a strong desire to build the program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels to majors and non-majors. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to his or her personal studio practice and program/curriculum planning and development. The faculty member will teach a 3-3 course load for 2015-2016, that includes two ceramics classes (wheel and hand built), two three-dimensional design foundation classes, one sculpture class based on material exploration and one class in the liberal arts core curriculum. Other responsibilities include advising students in the discipline, overseeing and managing the sculpture and ceramics studios and related areas, participating in student portfolio reviews and other duties as specified by the department chair.

Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Earned Master of Fine Arts ( MFA ) with a consistent record of active engagement in the discipline. Candidates must demonstrate a broad knowledge of sculpture and ceramics, be able to articulate contemporary, historical and conceptual issues as well as manage the sculpture and ceramics facilities. Minimum 2 years college teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship.


Preferred Qualifications: An MFA in Sculpture with an emphasis in ceramics is preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with evidence of college teaching effectiveness. A commitment to contemporary art practice and good writing, speaking and interpersonal skills are also preferred. Applicants should have a strong interest in foundations level teaching for both majors and non-majors.

Rome Prize 2015

The American Academy in Rome is currently accepting applications for the 2015 Rome Prize. Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to about thirty emerging artists and scholars who represent the highest standard of excellence and who are in the early or middle stages of their working lives. 2015 CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour - Call to Artists

The CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour in Mankato, MN is currently accepting outdoor sculpture submissions for the 2015 tour. The deadline to submit your application is November 1, 2014. The mission of the CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour is to provide a professional, year-round outdoor sculpture program in the City Centers of Mankato and North Mankato that is both high-quality and artist-friendly. We feature a well-balanced exhibit with all styles, types, materials and sizes of sculptures from a broad range of artists – local, regional, national and international.  Over the last four years, CityArt has sold ten sculptures from its program and has facilitated several commissioned pieces. How It Works
The 2015 CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour is planned to include over 30 sculptures in the core blocks of Mankato and North Mankato, MN. Instead of purchasing the artworks outright, CityArt obtains sculptures on loan from artists each year and provides nearly $30,000 in artist prize money which includes prizes for Best-of-Show (bronze & other material) and the People’s Choice Award. The sculptures are displayed for about one year (May to April).
 
Awards Structure
·         People’s Choice Award – purchase price up to $15,000 plus $3,000 cash prize
·         Best of Show - Bronze - $2,500, Second - $1,500, Third - $1,000, Honorable Mention - $500
·         Best of Show - Other Medium - $2,500, Second - $1,500, Third - $1,000, Honorable Mention - $500
 
Artist Stipend
Artists will receive $500 for delivery and pick up of first sculpture and $250 for second sculpture by the same artist.
*Minnesota artists accepted into the program will receive an additional $250.
 
Shipping Reimbursement: Artists will receive up to $250 in shipping reimbursement if their sculpture is not sold and needs to be shipped back to them at the end of the tour. Anything over and above this amount is paid by the artist.
Accommodations: Two night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn during the ‘Artists Weekend’ in May which includes an informal artists gathering on Friday night and a formal artists reception on Saturday evening following installation.

EFA STUDIO INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION:

The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Studio Program is a juried membership program for professional visual artists. The program provides subsidized studio space for over 75 contemporary artists.

EFA Studio Program internships provide a unique opportunity to work directly with artists in their studios (as Artist Assistants) and actively contribute to the creation of exhibitions and programs, while gaining exposure to the inner-workings of a multi-faceted, non-profit arts space (as Administrative Interns). Each intern will split his/her time between assisting artists in their studios and working closely with EFA Studio Program staff in the offices.

EFA Studio Program is seeking enthusiastic and committed candidates who desire to learn about contemporary art and arts administration. Successful candidates will be amiable, adaptable, professional, social, and confident. Interns should be comfortable working as a member of a team—working well with direction, while feeling confident to provide his/her own insights. Along with handling the administrative tasks of the program, interns will consistently be working directly with contemporary artists. EFA Studio Program intern responsibilities during the spring will include:
- Acting as Artist Assistants to Studio Program artists
- Overseeing all social media platforms in collaboration with the Studio Program staff

- Processing New Membership and Membership Renewal applications and paperwork
- Work on research projects involving artists, non-profits, and residency programs

- Interacting directly with our member artists.

Qualifications for all EFA Interns:
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate student with related major and/or interest in contemporary art
- Proficiency in Mac applications, Microsoft Office, and Adobe CS preferred

- Ability to handle artwork
- Personal experience working on Facebook and Twitter
- Commitment of 2-4 days per week

Window Studio - Artist Residency

Window Studio of Bedford-Stuyvesant is seeking an emerging  to mid-career artist for their Artist-In-Residence program (AIR). The selected candidate will foster the mission of the organization while developing their own studio practice.

The Window Studio AIR is an intensive 6-month studio artist residency designed to immerse artists in their studio practice while sharing their process with the local community. Artists from all media are invited to apply. Four residencies, two held concurrently, are offered each year. Emerging artists living and working in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community are given preference but all New York City artists are welcome to apply.

Since an important component of the Window Studio AIR program is to interact with members of the community, applicants must be able to spend a minimum of 15 hours per week working in the studio. The artist will design and teach 1 weekend class and 1 weekday class per semester (2 classes total) There will be opportunities to teach additional workshops as well. The selected artist will receive unlimited studio access during the 6-month period as permitted by operating hours and monthly transportation stipend. The artist will have a culminating exhibition in the Window Studio Gallery. 

Window Studio AIR Eligibility:
The Window Studio AIR is ideal for emerging and mid-career artists working to develop their studio practice and career experience. Applicants cannot have an affiliation with any institution as a full or part-time student, fellow, or already be an artist-in-residence at another studio. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent MFA graduate.

Window Studio Hours of Operation Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Saturday - Sunday: 11.00 am – 4:00 pm.

Barre Sculpture Studios Internship

Barre Sculpture Studios, a stone carving studio in Barre, Vermont with a strong base in traditional figurative/representational work, seeks intern to begin September 1st for 2-3 months. 

Though we work primarily in granite, at the moment we have two clay modeling jobs to be cast in bronze that need to be completed alongside a demanding stone carving workload. An over life sized Alexander Hamilton that has already been enlarged and needs finishing/detail, with special attention to drapery and colonial dress (frock coat, leggings, loafers, vest, etc.) The figure is made out of grey Klean Clay (oil based) The foundry where the figure will be cast is in Rutland, VT. This will be the main focus of the internship. A 1/3 sized seated figure that is nearly complete with an emphasis on achieving a likeness in the portrait. This will also need to be copied and cast, so proficiency in mold making is a plus. (see attached photos)We will also ask that applicants do minor organization work throughout the shop that wouldn't exceed 3-4 hours/week. In addition to clay modeling, applicants will be exposed to tools and techniques of the stone carving trade at a professional level in one of Barre's premier stone carving studios. We have ample stone to practice on if students are interested in exploring stone carving on their own time.

Compensation:
Monthly pay will begin at $1,000 per month depending on experience.  We will supply a room conveniently located directly around the corner from the shop, (406 N. Main St. Barre, VT) which is in a two bedroom that is just a 5 min. walk from downtown Barre City. Apartment comes with one parking spot, trash removal, no internet/cable, washing machine not included, but laundromat is located across the street. Utilities not included (to be split with roommate) and internet is negotiable with roommate. Roommate is a 21 year old female who works locally and is very nice.

Call for Applications: Eric Fischl Artist-in-Residence Teaching Program

Eric Fischl Artist-in-Residence Teaching Program

Eric Fischl, the New York Academy of Art, and West Nottingham Academy are pleased to announce an Artist-in-Residence Teaching Program located on the beautiful campus of West Nottingham Academy near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.  West Nottingham Academy was founded in 1744 and is a residential school for college-bound students with a strong emphasis on the arts.

Every year three artist/residents will be chosen exclusively from the alumni community of the New York Academy of Art to teach and create art on campus at the West Nottingham Academy.  Each artist/resident will be present on campus for one term of the trimester (the fall, winter, or spring).  Artist/residents will be given a private studio, an apartment in the Faculty Dormitory, three meals a day at the campus dining facility, access to a campus car as needed, an exhibition at the beginning of the residency, and the opportunity to present their work to the West Nottingham community in the form of an Artist Talk.  Each artist/resident will also be given an $8,000 stipend to support their work and to cover any unforeseen expenses during the residency, generously provided by West Nottingham alumnus Eric Fischl.

Each artist/resident will be required to teach two classes five days a week for eight to ten weeks, depending on the term of the trimester.  The syllabi for these classes will be designed by each artist/resident in consultation with West Nottingham faculty.

-One-page artist statement describing your work
-One-page pedagogical statement outlining your approach to teaching
-Current CV
-Cover letter specifying the discipline you would be applying to teach (printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, etc.) and the trimester you would prefer to teach

The residency will run for 10-12 weeks during each of Nottingham’s trimesters as follows:

Bryant Park Painter in Residence Program

The Bryant Park Corporation invites applicants to participate in the third annual Painter in Residence Program for the purpose of creating representational imagery of Bryant Park. Program Details:
Subject matter: Landscapes and iconic features of the park
Painting schedule: Daily (cancelled in case of rain; rescheduled with approval of Bryant Park program manager.)
Stipend: $1000 per week plus one-time supplemental fund of up to $1000 for materials. Amount for materials will be confirmed with receipts.
Application Deadline: June 30, 2014
Announcement of Award: July 25, 2014


Eligibility:
The competition is open to all U.S. artists 18 years of age or older. Any artwork submitted for consideration must have been completed in the last two years. Though representational styles will be given preference, innovative and experimental approaches are welcome. Likewise, art using either traditional or alternative media will be accepted.

Art studio share available in Williamsburg

The Fine Art Department at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design invites applications for an adjunct instructor of painting. The College is seeking a qualified candidate to teach FA283 Painting from Observation: Color, Form and Space I, a sophomore level course. The course is scheduled for Fridays from 10-5, beginning September 5th, 2014, and runs for 14 classes.

Course Description:
This course shares many of the objectives of FA281 Drawing From Observation, but in the medium of paint. Students will learn the characteristics, techniques, and applications of oil and water-based paint and mediums utilizing still life, interiors, and the human figure as subject. Students will be taught an integrated approach to accurate seeing, response to materials, construction of form, and design. Historic and contemporary examples of painting from direct observation will be studied to illustrate technical, formal, and aesthetic concepts.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of the techniques associated with oil and water-based paint, and the ability to teach these techniques in conjunction with a sophisticated marriage of concept and context.

A portfolio of painting from observation is preferable. MFA or equivalent required.

New Artist Retreat Program

The Mayapple Center for the Arts and Humanities will launch this summer with ten pilot 5-day masterclasses in the visual arts, music, theater, creative writing and humanities.
