Gallery Preparator - New York University

Oversee the installation, lighting design, and de-installation of exhibitions for the Department of Art and Art Profession's exhibition spaces. Train and monitor student assistants in art handling skills during art installations and de-installations. Assist with the design, logistics and execution of the installations. Assist artists and exhibition curators with their projects, as required. Maintain the general condition of the physical spaces and maintain inventories of supplies. Assist with opening receptions and related events.

Qualifications/Required Education:
High School diploma or equivalent and some relevant technical training.

Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Art or Arts Administration

Required Experience:
Min. 2 years experience in physical preparation of gallery exhibitions, including lighting and support media; instructing students in installation/de-installation of gallery exhibits.

Preferred Experience:
Min. 2 years experience in fabrication.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (include unique competencies, certification, licenses, etc.):
Knowledge of proper art handling, extensive knowledge of techniques and materials for safeguarding artworks, lighting design, and exhibition design. Demonstrated excellence in fabrication and installation skills. Knowledge of contemporary art.

Decorative Painter Assistant Richard Smith Studios

High-end Decorative Art Business is looking for a versatile, multi-talented individual. Experience in the field and a top tier art school BFA or MFA is a must. I am willing to train but you must be eager and interested in this field. I am not interested in anyone with attitude; humility, respect and a strong work ethic are essential.

The applicant should be acquainted with DECORATIVE PAINTING: FAUX FINISHES: faux bois, faux marble, glazing techniques (stipple, strie, rag etc.) as well as GILDING, and STUCCO VENEZIANO (synthetic and Marmorino)

In addition to the above he/she should be able to design, organize and execute MURALS and TROMPE L'OEIL and be adept at studio work: color mixing, all aspects of design, drawing descriptively/naturalistically, perspective, paint handling etc.

The applicant must be familiar and comfortable with working on jobsites in high-end apartments and houses as well as in the studio.

All applicants must be able to speak English well and have appropriate documents for work in US.
