Studio Space - Harlem

I'm looking for someone to share my light filled studio in Harlem.
The studios are located on 8th avenue between 115th and 116th streets right on the 116th street B/C subway stop and close to the 2/3 stop. It is about 320 square feet split in half for $412.50 per month including utilities. It has really nice light with a northwest facing window. There is a kitchen/bathroom/slop sink/gallery common area. It's on the second floor with no elevator.

ELIGIBILITY:

- All women artists, including self-identified women, may submit original works of art.
- Painting in any medium, photography, prints, drawing, works on paper, new media, sculpture, mixed media, traditional or non-traditional materials are welcome. **
- There is no size limit on artwork.

The Art of Patrón

Patrón recognizes the creativity that comes from the New York Academy of the Art and we would like to invite you to showcase their artistic talents for a chance to win $10,000!

On Friday, March 1, we are launching “The Art of Patrón,” a contest that recognizes handmade visual and functional pieces of art that contain, are made from, or depict any Patrón bottle or component thereof. The Georgia Fee Artist/Writer Residency in Paris

The Georgia Fee Artist/Writer Residency has been established in memory of ArtSlant's Founder who passed away December 8th, 2012. Georgia was dedicated to supporting and investing in young artists and writers, and she had a deep connection with the city of Paris. This residency, which offers artists and writers the opportunity to create work in Paris, has been created in Georgia's memory.
The goal of the Georgia Fee Artist/Writer Residency in Paris is to support and invest in emerging artists and writers, to provide an opportunity for them to advance their work and explore and engage with the cultural landscape of Paris, to encourage experimentation, and to increase exposure of their work to an international audience.
The Residency is open to visual artists of all mediums, art writers, critics, poets, and creative writers, 24 years or older. Recent graduates are especially encouraged to apply. The selection will be made based on the merit of past work and the potential for future success, the ability to independently develop new work, and the proposed project's relevance to the city of Paris. Recipients will be required to maintain a blog, which will be posted on ArtSlant.
The Georgia Fee Artist/Writer Residency in Paris provides the recipient with lodging for 2 months in an apartment in the 14th arrondissement, travel to and from Paris, and a stipend to be used for studio space, materials, and other costs.
How to Apply
Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of work present on the applicant's ArtSlant profile, as well as the content of the application's written materials. 
Artists can upload images of their work onto their profile slideshow for consideration, while writers can add samples of their writing as reader reviews on ArtSlant, or onto their profile blog. To enter: Go to your profile. To the right of your profile, under MANAGE MY PROFILE, click on apply to residency. Enter and save your application materials in the fields provided. You may, however, continue building your portfolio on your ArtSlant profile after submitting your application's written materials. Be advised that applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, so it is recommended that the applicant's profile is in a polished and presentable state when written application materials are submitted.

  • A $25 administrative fee
  • All submissions must be made through the candidate's ArtSlant profile.
The application period is open from March 1 to March 31, 2013. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by April 5th and an interview will be arranged (by phone or Skype). We will announce the recipient of the Georgia Fee Artist/Writer Residency on April 20th. The residency takes place during the months of July and August, 2013.

POSITION: Paid Internship
Part Time: 2-3 days a week, 10 am to 6 pm

David Zwirner is currently looking to fill the position of paid, part-time Front Desk Intern for Spring/Summer 2013.

The Intern will assist the Gallery Assistant with all front-of-house operations of a contemporary art gallery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Answering multi-line phone system and directing calls to a staff of 20
-Greeting clients and general public visitors to the gallery
-Receiving and directing exhibition and installation inquiries from gallery visitors
-Basic Photoshop work (resizing images, pairing images with text for print, outputting images, basic scanning from books and transparencies)
-Online purchasing and distribution of office and kitchen supplies for gallery

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an art history, museum studies, and/or arts administration degree program. Strong verbal communication skills, poise, and an acute attention to detail are necessary. Good working knowledge of Photoshop and computer systems a must. Knowledge of modern and contemporary art history a must. Applicants must be willing to learn the daily front-of-house operations of a contemporary art gallery from the ground up, and be professional, presentable, reliable, and discrete.

The Painting Center, a gallery in the heart of Chelsea, announces a call for entries for its upcoming juried exhibition entitled WORKING IT OUT, running from June 18th to July 13th, 2013. The exhibit will be accompanied by a printed catalog and will be widely publicized. Artists of all disciplines begin their creative process with preparatory drawings. Thisenables visual problem solving throughout the execution of an artwork that is both fluid and beautiful. Drawing can be an exploration of materials, mark making, the emotional tenor of a piece, compositional arrangements or
color. Working drawings are the visual manifestation of a work in progress; a working idea. Typically, this work is not seen by the public. These are private musings that re ect thought
processes. They are, by de finition, incomplete. This exhibition will allow the viewer to see the
private world of the artist’s creative process. We invite artists of all disciplines to submit working drawings.

Submission Guidelines:
- You may submit up to 5 jpegs on a CD
- Images must be 300 dpi, mimimum of 1800 pixels in each direction
- Title jpegs with your last name, rst name, and number, for example: smithjohn1.jpg
- Images submitted must be of work available for show. Alternate works will not be accepted.

Painting Workshops in Morroco

Only a few spots are left to the Morocco trip / painting workshops with Margaret Owen (MFA 2000) and Elizabeth Hutchinson (MFA 2000). They are traveling to Marrakech in April and to South West France in September. In Morocco they will working with watercolor and will be staying at Peacock Pavilions and in France, they be painting in oil, en plein air and staying at a nice 14th C Chateau.
