Residency Coordinator - chashama

chashama is a New York City based not-for-profit that transforms temporarily vacant properties into spaces where artists can flourish. chashama operates an Artist Residency Program located 95 miles north of NYC in Pine Plains, NY. We are currently seeking a creative hands-on Residency Coordinator for our program (http://chanorth.org/). The Residency Coordinator at chashama North works alongside the Food Coordinator to ensure day-to-day operations. The Residency season is from May 4th - October 5th. There are 5 sessions each approximately 4 weeks long with 5 artists per session.

The position is for immediate hire.

Requirements & Responsibilities
  • Must have car with Valid Driver’s License (Gas is reimbursed)
  • Must be willing to reside upstate (housing provided), as a main facilitator and emergency contact
  • Accepting and evaluating applications and notifying artists of placement
  • Ensuring the residency is prepared before each session and breaking down after each session. This involves making sure each bedroom has clean linens, the studios are clean and ready for artists to work and that the Food Coordinator has fully stocked the kitchen.
  • Communication with main chashama office about short- and long-term needs/visions *Communicating with the property manager when there are maintenance needs
  • Encouraging a sense of community amongst the resident artists
  • Maintaining monthly budget and tracking expenses
  • Scheduling and organizing monthly Open Studios and other artist-related events, publicity for events, including designing and printing flyers and posters, distributing print materials, creating listings in local publications, communicating with press, e-newsletter, social networking, forming partnerships with local groups to expand the profile of the residency
The Residency Coordinator will work closely with and report to chashama's Operations Manager. Excellent communication, organization and problem solving skills are needed for this position.

Salary and Hours:
  • Residency Season is from May 4th - October 5th 2012. Position starts immediately for prep in NYC.
  • Must be in residency in Pine Plains. Some time can be split between NYC and Upstate.
  • Residency Coordinator position includes room (with studio space), food (Organic from the farm)
  • Stipend is $1,200 per month.

Studio Space - 1717 Troutman in Bushwick



Studio Space available at 1717 Troutman off the Jefferson L train. It's a decent size space and at the moment completely empty. Looking for 1-3 people to sublet a 1100 square feet by mid month. The building is full of NYAA alumni, and the space will go fast.
