Call for Emerging Artists: Step Up 2012

Step Up is Real Art Ways' annual call for Emerging Artists in New England, New York and New Jersey. It is an awesome program designed to jump start the careers of artists. Our definition of "emerging" is quite loose, the guidelines are defined on our website.  There is no cost to apply. Selected artists receive a solo exhibition, honorarium, materials budget and publication.

BONUS ELIGIBILITY:
Display Artists are eligible to receive a quarterly bonus by achieving the quarterly sales goal and through the submission of creative layouts with an accompanying submission cover sheet. Submissions will be evaluated based upon the level of innovation and creativity applied to company direction and the Display Artist's contribution to creating unique and distinctive store environments. The bonus is based on the employee's annual salary, and is payable on a quarterly basis.

Looking for highly skilled and organized assistant to work in Artist’s studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Must have superior draftsmanship, attention to detail and a strong working knowledge and ability to work in both charcoal and graphite. The position is 10 to 6, 3 days a week and at times, possibly 5 days a week.

Focus of position will be assisting artist with preparing and helping to finish works on paper. Other duties will require at times, running errands some basic studio management.

Emphasis will be put on applicants with a BFA or higher degree.

The position will start on March 1st.

$20/hour

Artists Wanted for Open Studios

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is seeking local artists for the Open Studios Program. Successful candidates will have extensive background working predominately in three-dimensional materials and processes. The studios are open for the public to interact informally with the working artist during regular museum hours- teaching experience is a plus. Artists are highly encouraged to visit the Open Studios at MAD to fully understand the structure of the program.

The positions are temporary adjunct part-time. This residency will run for approximately 4 months; each artist will work one regularly scheduled day/week, with select additional evening shifts. Participating artists will also have the opportunity to display their work in the museum’s 6th floor vitrines for the duration of their own residency as well as the following 4 months. Each artist will also have their bio and two images of their work featured on MAD’s website.

The Academy of Fine Arts in Umeå was founded in 1987 and is an institution within the Faculty of Arts. The Academy has about 70 students in the Fine Arts program. The program has two degree levels, Bachelor of Fine Arts (3 years) and Master of Fine Arts (2 years). During the current academic year, a postgraduate program in Fine Arts has begun with three PhD students. Courses are also given in Aesthetics.
The education is oriented towards contemporary art. The Studio Manager will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of a working artist studio, managing its staff, and liaising with multiple galleries and institutions. Individual must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Art History, Fine Art Management, or Business Management is essential. Must have documented experience (2-5 years) in managing an artist's studio, gallery, artist's cooperative, or similar experience in a related field with knowledge of contemporary art. REQUIREMENTS:

The Employment and Technology Center is seeking Teaching Artists with visual/graphic designed backgrounds to support our curriculum in the area of Visual/Graphic Arts. Teaching Artists will help our students learn the world of visual/graphic design and are the program advocate for Arts education as a means to cultivate the student holistically in an educational setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and develop class curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and special projects
Lead and facilitate 2 hour classes in the Fall and Spring and 6 hour classes in the Summer
Coordinate subject related trips, guest speakers, special events, student exhibitions, and college trips
Attend weekly staff meetings
Work with Education team in creating visual/graphic arts and academic lessons
Be committed and integrate youth development into teaching practice

Engage youth in the following areas: critical thinking; evaluation; risk-taking; rehearsals; hands-on project-based learning; documentation of work; community-building and activism

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications Skills and Knowledge Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and/or equivalent work experience

Experience working in youth development with high school youth and teaching well developed enrichment courses, social consciousness, self identity and efficacy
