DIRECTOR OF CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director provides leadership for the Center for Career and Professional Development. Under minimum supervision and with a wide latitude for independent judgment the successful candidate will administer and coordinate all student and alumni career and professional development activities in the areas of art and design, information and library science, liberal studies and architecture.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide overall department leadership, vision, management and supervision.
-   Supervise professional and clerical staff, work with each staff member to develop annual goals, conduct annual evaluations, participate in training, and manage staff assignments including career field assignments for professional staff.
-   Manage office projects and conduct staff meetings.
-   Manage the departmental budget. 
-   Maintain relationships with the Budget Office, Controller’s Office, Facilities Management, Alumni Affairs and other campus departments to ensure that the resources needed to effectively run Career and Professional Development operations are available. 
• Coordinate and administer all career and professional development activities in assigned areas of career field responsibility:
-   Conduct individual one-to one counseling sessions.
-   Refer job opportunities to registered students and alumni.
-   Supervise on-campus recruiting activities including scheduling of presentations and interview visits, hosting employer representatives, making special arrangements, etc.)
• Supervise the compilation of statistical information relative to career counseling, referral and recruitment activities and the career plans of graduating seniors. Analyze data and prepare reports for dissemination to the campus community.
• Prepare administrative reports for the Vice President, President, and Board of Trustees.
• Conduct workshops as appropriate to the current department goals and as requested by Residential Life, academic departments or others in the campus community.
• Maintain close liaison with the deans and department chairpersons, especially in the career field areas of responsibility.
• Perform all other related activities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We require a Bachelor’s degree as well as a Masters degree in counseling/student affairs or equivalent experience.

Applicants must have at least 5 years’ experience working in a college career center including at least 4 years’ experience supervising professional and non-professional staff in a similar environment.  Knowledge of one or more of the fields taught at Pratt Institute (i.e., art and design, architecture, and information and library science) is essential as is demonstrated ability to review art and architecture portfolios and to understand and interpret job market trends and apply data to career counseling.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated creative problem solving, and program planning and implementation skills are also required. Facility with social media and interactive design software is preferred.

SALARY is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
